Farmers Feel the Climate Change: Variety Choice as an Adaptation Strategy of European Potato Farmers

09.09.2023

As part of ADAPT project, we asked European farmers how they experience the effects of climate change on their potato production and what adaptation measures are suitable for them. More than 500 farmers from 22 different European countries took part in an onlone survey that was translated to different European languages.

The overwhelming majority of respondents confirm that they are feeling the impact of climate change on their potato production, witch drought and heat being the main problems. Growing potatoes adapted variety is the preferred adaptation strategy.

The results of the survey show the challenges European potato farmers face in times of climate change.
