The burning glass effect of water droplets triggers a high light-induced calcium response in the chloroplast stroma

06.06.2025

Highlights

• High light triggers Ca2+ responses in the chloroplast stroma,

cytosol, and ER

• Photodamage and singlet oxygen contribute to the stromal

Ca2+ response

• The stromal response is light driven but enhanced by

temperature increase

• Ca2+ transfer between chloroplast and ER is perturbed by

high light
