Survey of Potato Growers’ Perception of Climate Change and Its Impacts on Potato Production in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria

29.08.2024

Potato growers in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) replied in a survey that climate change adversely impacted their potato production, indicated by 98% of German and more than 90% of Swiss and Austrian respondents. The most prominent stress factors were drought and heat. The results call for developing strategies to maintain potato yields. Apparent differences regarding the conditions and needs for implementing suitable mitigation strategies highlight the importance of taking account of country-specific challenges.
